Abstract

Plant breeding is a dynamic field of applied science. It depends on genetic variation and uses selection to improve plants for traits and characteristics that are of interest for the grower and the consumer.

The progress in conventional breeding is slow owing to several barriers, such as the time-consuming selection process and difficulties in appropriate genotype selection.
